More exciting than the city of
Mumbai is itself, there are some
beautiful tourist destinations,
near the city worth visiting.
Elephanta Cave in Mumbai Elephanta
islands, it’s a UNESCO World
Heritage site which is are located
11 km from Mumbai. The caves are
famous for their rock cut sculptures.
The island itself is composed of
two small conical hills. Carved
into the rock solid basalt, they
create a representation of the mountain
residence of Lord Shiva. In the
temple in the caves, paying the
light of three parts gives the impression
that the sculptures are in motion.
Gigantesques pillars seem to support
the cave ceiling. In this temple
is a majestic grand hall with 9
carved panels representing Lord
Shiva in different postures. The
boats leave every 30 minutes between
9.00 am-12, 00 hours, Apollo Bunder
to Elephanta and between 13.00 am-17,
00 hours, returning to Elephanta
Apollo Bunder.
Essel World, Mumbai, places to visit

Essel World - Gorai Located near
the beach, Essel World is the biggest
amusement park in India. In addition
to the usual roller coaster rides,
Essel World Water World offers a
section which is a great success
in Mumbai 's sultry weather. However,
it is adjacent to the water kingdom
east Asia 's largest water park
with slides, theme cruises and the
world 's largest wave pool. Ferries
of Gorai Beach will lead you to
the Essel World Kingdom and water
easily.
Jogeshwari Caves - A 1,500-year-old
structure, these caves are 45 minutes
by train from Church Gate. The cave
Jogeshwari temple has a great central
hall, which contains a sanctuary
and a Lingam. Several other small
rooms are dedicated to Hanuman,
Devi Mata, Jogeshwari single and
an orange Ganesha. However, the
complex was overrun by shelters
and housing and the walls of the
cave temple have disintegrated.
Fantasyland - The country cousin
to Essel World, Fantasyland is located
in Jogeshwari East. It is a small-scale
amusement park, which offers karting,
dodge cars and roller coasters.

Bassein - The ruins of the Portuguese
fort, 77 km from Mumbai on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad
highway recall a thriving city that
existed within these very walls
between 1534-1739. Some walls and
ruins of churches still attract

Sanjay Gandhi National Park - A
104 sq km park is known for its
population of leopards. Located
near the border north of Mumbai,
it also includes a Lion Safari Park
which lies about 500 miles in the
north of the main entrance to the
park. A short safari trip daily
from 9.00 am to 5 pm except Monday.
The park also contains two lakes
which are said to a large piece
of Mumbai 's water supply.
Kanheri Caves - Located in the
center of the Sanjay Gandhi National
Park, the Cave Kanheri complex was
built between the 2 nd to 9 Hinayana
century by Buddhist monks. The caves
of two enormous Buddha statues guarding
the entrance to the cave number
3. They are said to be carved in
the 6th century.
Lonavala Tour-Located in the Sahyadri
ranges spread over 38 square km
at an altitude of 622 meters above
sea level .Both stations Lonavala
hill and Khandala are 110 km from
Mumbai on the Mumbai-Pune road.
The name comes from the sanskrit
word Lonavli, which means caves.
There are many caves as Bedsa, Karla
and Bhaja near Lonavala, hence the
name. Funny the best time to visit
Lonavala and Khandala is the rainy
season. That is when the hill stations

Tungarli Lake - A beautiful lake
that supplies water to Lonavala
town.

Tiger 's Leap - A cliff top with
a simple drop of more than 650 metres,
it is a cliff with a view.

near the dam, it is a great picnic
spot.
Fort Lohagad - The former station
of the famous battle-Chatrapati
Shivaji Maratha, Lohagad, which
means hindi Fort iron, has a view
over the surrounding hills.
