Mumbai or Bombay
has always been a multicultural and
multi-ethnic city. The culture is
a potpourri of Maharashtrian, gujarati,
Parsi and Islamic elements. Whether
it’s the Siddhi Vinayak Temple
or the Parsi Tower of silence or Haji
Ali, all co-exist in this metropolis.
Although in the recent past, the Shiv
Sena has tried to give a very Mumbai
Marathi identity, most still consider
this the land of opportunity, particularly
to be immortalized on film.
Choc-block with a means of entertainment,
a walk to Marine Drive to the chaos
of Chowpatty, shopping malls in
Colaba Causeway Road and a link
to drink coffee at the Apollo Bar
at the Hotel Taj Mahal or "
have a cup of tea in the tea Irani
shops, Mumbai is as diverse as you
can get. The bungalows at Pali Hill
or the chawls of Dharavi, the rich
and the less rich live together
in this city and it would not be
wrong for it to be known as mini-India.
